Chinatown, LES, Little Italy Tour

LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION IN MANHATTAN

Tour Highlights:

The Lower East Side is where European Immigrants first settled and started building their lives in the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.

Lower East Side

At one point, the most densely populated neighborhood on earth. Hear about the struggles and triumphs of those who risked it all to settle in the area.

Little Italy

Find out why Italian Immigrants were known as “birds of passage” while hearing tales of the evolution of some common Italian American dishes that were born in this neighborhood.

Essex Street Market

Grab a snack and a coffee while learning about the history street vendors and the cultural diversity of the Lower East Side.

Chinatown

Not just a neighborhood to grab a snack or buy knockoffs. Chinatown is a vibrant living community, with a culture all its own and a mural project rivaling the more famous street art in Brooklyn.

Rave Reviews:

Private, customized, informative!

Our family of 4, including 2 teenaged girls, just finished a 4 hour tour with Max. We combined a few elements from three of his tours and ended up with a super informative tour by a local guide who obviously loves his job (and small business). It was nice to support a local entrepreneur while having the benefit of his knowledge. Max was flexible enough to totally change our tour on the fly, adding in the Brooklyn Bridge and abbreviating a few others. He provided us with a ton of useful information and tips about places to go and eat. We met him on our 2nd full day in NY, but I suggest booking with him on your first day so you have time to take advantage of his recommendations. He kept the walking tour interesting with tidbits of history and challenged us with trivia q’s. That part sometimes engaged our teenagers, who are less than enthusiastic about too many things. They did admit, after we parted ways with Max, that they enjoyed the tour and even the history. It made their US History classes more relevant ;-). I also highly suggest reading his website articles with tips and suggestions- one subway card for family of 4! Downloadable HD subway map! We would definitely do another tour with CityRover. You might think it’s a little expensive, but given the personal attention and no set schedule to follow, you will save time and money while seeing what you want to see. I truly believe we saw more in 4 hours with Max than we would have in 6-8 hours with a big group. Well worth every penny.

4 hour Brooklyn Walking Tour

Max is full of information and history about NYC and Brooklyn. Our tour opened up our eyes to a wonderful part of NYC that we had not seen before. This is a definite “to do” if you are visiting NYC. Brooklyn offers a pleasant contrast to the tall canyons of Downtown. Well worth the time with a great tour guide.
